Frame. I love the CAAD frames and will buy another someday.

Weakness:

Somewhat suspect Cannondale CODA spec'd stuff - handlebar, seat, seatpost. Didn't care for the Mavic CXP 11 rims and Shimano RSX hubs that came stock. Buy, hey, for the price you can't beat this bike.

This beautiful bike has served me well through tens of thousands of miles. Still running the same 105 gruppo that it came stock with, though I had to replace the right shifter after 7 years. Upgraded the wheelset, crappy CODA seat, but otherwise kept her the same.

1998 CANNONDALE 4000 Paid $2000 , 3 days before store closed, May 2002 A local Cannondale dealer wants approx 5500 + tax for this same bike set-up,but the good deals are out there. Aluminum frame. All carbon fiber ,stem, seat post, handlebars added for long rides, carbon fiber from britton's bike shop,S.A.Tx. San marcos seat from broadway bike, Paid. $8 last day the store was open Titanium peddles & water cage because why cut corners on a bike this fine. I was not happy with mavic derailer system,so mavic gave me duro-ace system & ksysrium rims Can you believe this deal , you can't touch it. One of the finest bikes money could buy & I got it at a steal Light weight , fast ,good hill climber for the Tx.Hill Country I wish everyone could have a bike this sweet . Some-times when I ride, it feels as if the bike has it's own motor. Even the Euro-bikes people know it's a great bike If you can get one PLEASE do

Handling, frame, 105 group, and light weight

Weakness:

Rear wheel seems to get out of true easily

I am primarily a mountain biker and this is my first road bike. I am six feet and 200 lbs and have put a lot of miles on this bike with no major problems. The aluminum frame is strong, feels very light and is well suited for larger riders. This bike is a great value and has great acceleration. The 105 group shifts smoothly and stops quickly. What more can you want is this price range?

I took an older used Cannondale for a test ride. I got scared taking my hand off the bars to shift gears.

I have a 1996 R600, 2.8 style frame. I suspect there isn't a huge difference between the old and new frames, differences that MOST serious riders would notice in feel or performance. Less serious riders will probably be put off by the stiffness of most aluminum frames. But note that the best riders in the world chose aluminum. The top riders, including Pantani, rode aluminum in the Tour de France. I suppose it is a material that offers the best blend of lightness and stiffness for maximum power output.Anyway, for those serious riders who can't afford top-of-the-line frames, Cannondale bikes are the best choice. However, the new bikes are a little steep in price. If you can find a new 1998 bike or earlier, usually you can get a super deal and have money left over for upgrades. The first to go should be the bottom bracket and cranks. If the seat feels too harsh get a good seat. I recommend Serfas' Dual Density seats. Dura Ace upgrades are also dropping in price (shifters, derailleurs, cogs, chain), as low as $350 lately. My bike weighs 18.5 lbs and makes me look like a hill climbing expert.Great bikes. I bought a C'dale hardtail at a low price and have been upgrading there also. If you don't have a ton of money buy a C'dale on closeout and slowly upgrade if you are serious about riding. A bit of a harsh ride like bicyclist said several years back but a great value and very reliable bike. It has been 3 years of pounding on it and still good.Ever notice how the mag contradicts itself. About a year before Cipo and Gotti kicked ass on it, the mag did not really recommend it because they though it was too harsh. Now Bicyclist say wow what a dream bike. Hah. Ha.

Sweet ride...I was riding this bike to spin more & stay in shape for Mountain Bike racing. I like it so much I am thinking about entering a local road race. This bike is very affordable for the person who is serious about cycling, but won't be participating in the Tour anytime soon.

Light frame and Shimano 105 nine speed are sweet.

Weakness:

Continental Super Sport 100 tires, awful green colour as one of the colour choices.

I really like this bike. I rode a cro-moly frame prior to this and now just love the light aluminum frame. The Slice carbon fibre fork softens the harshness, and the bike enables excellent acceleration and climbing. Best bike in its price range no question.

Strength:

Nice frame, light and responsive. Handles beautifully in the aero position with a forward center of gravity.

Weakness:

Conti tires should have been upgraded as stock.

Sweet stock bike, but makes an easy transition to tri- specific bike. Shimano 105 gruppo nice, but they should have made the BB and hubs 105.
