Strength:

The comfortable fell of the bike. The components!!

Weakness:

I do not know of any

This bike does everything I ask it to. It is very responsive, corners incredibly, and flies down descents, but be aware, slight weight shifts cause it to respond. What I have been enjoying the most is how well this bike climbs. The transfer of power is quick and definite. I regularly gain 1000-2000 vertical feet in a 30 mile ride, and one 7.5 mile loop in my neighborhood has a little over 1000 feet of climbing. I find that I like this bike more with every ride. It is an incredibly comfortable ride with a smooth as silk feel, and when you step on it, it has a real get up and go. I have not see any other Eclipses on group rides that I have done, and I do not understand. It is such a great bike. I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase (actually my wife purchased it for me for Christmas), and I would recommend this bike for anyone who is interested in a steel bike that will stand up and run with anything in a weekly group ride or century. I have not raced this bike, but I suspect that it would perform very well.

price. light steel frame. components.

Weakness:

saddle (selle italia gel xo). paint--susceptible to chipping. hutchinson tires--had several flats and the rear-side-wall has a gash after 500 miles.

great bike for the money. silky smooth ride with the 853 steel. ultegra drivetrain works flawlessly. great climbing ksyrium wheels. am very happy the way the bike handles. on smooth road surfaces, you could only hear the tires rolling. such a great machinery for the price.

Strength:

The quality components: Strong steel frame, Ultegra group, Mavic brakes and Ksyrium wheels, Time fork. Jamis did a great job of putting together these components to create a great riding experience

Weakness:

The Selle seat was not for me. Swap it out for one that you like.

Dollar-for-dollar it is difficult to beat this bike for quality of ride and components. The 4.5 chain rings that Bicycle Magazine gave the Eclipse is well deserved. I have put over 100 miles a week in on training rides during the last 6 months and rode a metric century on it a few weeks ago. It rides smooth and quiet and handles like a dream. The Ksyrium wheel-set is the envy of many riders in my Saturday group. My only quibble is the seat, which I swapped out rather quickly. Otherwise, out of the box, it has been a dream. This is a great bike if you have a streak of the non-conformist in you, as not a lot of people in my area ride it.

The components. Ksyrium wheels, full Ultegra, 3T prima bar and Zepp stem, Thompson seatpost, Time fork.

Weakness:

None noticed yet.

An unbelievable bargain. The spec is light years ahead of what you''d expect at the price, and the Reynolds 853 frame rides beautifully. Like Bicycling said, there really is nothing to upgrade.

Strength:

Great value, stiff compliant frame, super wheels and componants, corners like it is on rails.

Weakness:

Narrow handlebars and setback seatpost.

I did a lot of research before I bought this bike. I wanted to try a quality steel frame. I have had aluminum and carbon fiber and this bike rides better than either of them. I don''t know if it is the frame, wheels, fork or all of the above but it is very smooth over rough roads. I ride about 100 miles a week and average 16 to 17 mph so I am not a racer but I love this thing. I keep it in my office so I can look at it. The value is unbeatable and it rides like a dream. The only complaint I have is that the handlebars were too narrow for a 61cm frame and I did not like the setback seatpost. I changed them out and added SPD''s. I plan on keeping this bike for a long time.

Everything. These wheels start moving and don't stop. Ultegra shifts smooth as silk.

Weakness:

Didn't come with pedals, although can be a good thing because I was able to pick whichever ones I want. I ended up with campy's which kick butt.

Love the bike. Even though the primary use is to commute to work at a bike shop it is still 20 miles of sheer excellence. I recommend it for any buyers in the market. Still can't find a flaw on the bike. Gives you the best bang for the buck value.

Outstanding value for the price. Like review above said just do the math on the components.

Weakness:

Stock saddle and paint quality (chips). Add the saddle of your choice (and peddles of course) and you're totally set.

I am thrilled with this bike! It rides and handles like a dream. I did a LOT of research prior to purchasing this bike and I don't have a single regret. I wish all my purchasing decisions turned out as well as this one did. I really like the fact that you don't see a lot of others on the road too. Fantastic bike for anyone wanting a light steel bike with traditional styling and good components. You won't beat the value factor of this bike!

What you get for the price--ksyrium wheels, ultegra components, Mavic brakes, Time Millenium fork, great frame

Weakness:

shoddy paint job; the color scheme looks great, but the paint chips very easily. But touching it up is easy to do and you can't expect an outstanding paint job for a bike with this kind of stuff at this price. The seat is average.

I couldn't be happier with this bike. It's rocket-fast, outstanding in corners, and it is comfortable on long rides. It just makes sense--quality steel frame with awesome wheels and great components at a very reasonable price for what you're getting (do the math). Buy this bike if you want an outstanding road bike thats really fast, but you don't want to pay $3,000-$5,000. I also recommend this ride to the racer on a budget. Don't buy this bike if you are afraid to ride a bike that not everybody else has.

I did a lot of research on the $1,500-$2,500 and this baby is tough to beat.

Components, Components, Components. Did I repeat that enough? The Eclipse had by far the better component package. The price of the components alone is worth the entry price for the bike. You're getting a Thompson Seatpost, Zepp Stem, 3T Bars, Full Ultegra (Excepting brakes which are Mavic)and a serious set of Kysrium wheels all well placed on a swift Reynolds 853 frame. The whole package for my 53cm frame weighed in at around 18 lbs, a shade under 19 with pedals. It corners neatly, rides well and is heads and shoulders above my last road bike, a 84 Vitus with full Campy Super Record and Assos rims. But 18 years later, and a well used MTB in the garage it was time to get back on the road. This bike (with the exception of the paint) has not failed to impress me. It's a blast to ride, and is a conversation starter. To pick a Jamis you really have to be self-confident, but then again, I shave my head so I'm not really lacking in the self-confidence Dept. The Top-of-the line Trek is great, but without a team sponsorship, and numerous Tour wins I have to spend my money wisely and the Jamis was well worth it.

Weakness:

The only weakness so far has been the paint job. This is the one area where Jamis has failed to maintain their overall high quality. I have had the bike less than 30 days and have had four chips in the paint. No, I don't off-road this bike, and in fact so far because of my schedule, 80% of my riding has been on my rollers. The guys at City Bikes recommended I use Black Fingernail polish. Not a bad tip until I flame spray this frame a bright Ferrari red with flames.

Once you get over the idea of paying $1,800+ for a bike you quickly come to a price point where each gram of weight saved comes at a much higher price with no noticible (to my old legs) contribution in performance. The Jamis hits this mark perfectly. Above this price point you will find the Tour bikes weighing in at 16-18 lbs with Dura-Ace/Record components, but I'm lucky to get out an hour a day on the road so Ultegra and a bike of 19 lbs is just fine. This is a bike for someone that wants a solid bike for the money, who looks carefully at the bike and not the marketing/hype, and believes that it is the man and not the machine that determines the winner of the race.
