Speedplay X/1 Titanium Pedals

DESCRIPTION

The unique shape of X pedals provides knee-saving lateral rotation, without the self-centering action inherent in most pedals - your knees don't have to work against spring tension. Their compact, low-profile shape positions your foot closer to the spindle, for optimal power transmission, not to mention the unmatched cornering clearance. And their dual-sided design provides the easiest entry/exit of any clipless pedal. The X-1 uses a titanium spindle for maximum weight savings. 150g/pr. Comes standard with cleats and mounting hardware. Compatible with virtually every road shoe in the marketplace. Please note that due to their Ti spindles, Speedplay recommends use of the X1 pedals for riders 185lbs and lighter. Please Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, we are unable to ship Speedplay products outside the United States.

Strength:

Easy in, easy out..great looks

Weakness:

Pricey, and weight limitations

These pedals are great, easy to get into, easy to get out of, lightweight, and ultra cool look. If you are looking to shave a ton of weight, this is a no-brainer. Pricey, but so is every other ultra-lite part.

Extremely light weight; very easy to clip in and out; look cool

Weakness:

The excessive float is driving me nuts; feels like I'm running in mud wearing sandals; my heels bang into the crank arms every revolution unless I consciously avoid it; expensive

Very torn at this point. I love the ease of entry and exit; never pull out accidentally, and the extreme light weight; may have to dump them, though, as I just can't get used to all the float; my foot moves all over the place; they say this is good for your knees, but I never had a problem with the Shimanos - just changed for the weight difference. The jury is still out on these...

Everything Speedplay said about this pedal is true!

Weakness:

These pedals lightened up my bike. I can pedal through more corners. The large amount of float is not a problem as long as your pedaling technique isn't too bad. No problems yet. Got them at Price Point cheaper than retail.

FLOAT...anyone having knee pain should switch to these pedals. Entry and exit is very easy, plus they are light.

Weakness:

Price

If the price bothers you go with the x2 or x3 model. Otherwise these pedals are the best I have tried and I no longer have any knee pain. Some people complain about too much float making it feel like you are on skates but you get used to it.

Easy of entry & exit, foot never pop out by accident, wide range of float, very light, and nice looks.

Weakness:

Cost too much. But other than that, none for me because I'm 155 lbs. I heard this not recommended for heavier riders about 180 lbs plus.

Best pedal I've ever used. I have no idea as to why some people say that it takes some getting use to, but I got use to this X1 pedals right off the bat. The no look entry is great, and exiting is just as easy.

Light, dual sided entry loads of float.

Weakness:

Weight limit, price.

I'm used to the float thing with my Frogs, but I don't need this much. For me, it's neither a positive or a negative.

I got so tired trying to clip in to my Ritchey's pulling away from stoplights, otherwise they worked fine for me.

These pedals are easy to service with a grease injector and they don't accidentally release, ever.

Get the cleat covers if you're going to walk at all-they're very nice.

The X/2 pedals are much more realistically priced.

Wonderful pedals. Took a little patience to get used to the extreme articulation on the pedals, but after a few rides, they are heaven. I don't even think about exit/entry anymore, it just seems to happen naturally. I won't ever use another pedal again. However, I might consider the X/2 rather than the X/1 next time. The weight difference is not all that much.

Strength:

Light weight, true no-look entry

Weakness:

Need to lube, need to keep cleaner than most other pedals, but worth it!

The ultimate pedal. TRUE no-look entry, VERY comfortable. 'Adaptation' period for me was about 20 miles- thereafter I didn't notice the 'open-ended' float or stepping on an ice-cube feeling that so many have noted; I could enter without looking or thinking about it.
I'll never buy another pedal!
Only regret is that I should have saved $50 and gone with the X2's, but at the time I couldn't find any at my usual haunts (go to ebay or roadbikereview.com classifieds)- prices there are about $200 for X1's, and $100 for X2's. Go for the X2's.

Weight and the comp. body of the pedal. No ability to pull out when you don't want to...

Weakness:

The cleat plates wear very easliy. Get the covers if you plan to walk at all....

The pedals actually hurt me! Now, I know Speedplays have their share of lovers but not me. I switched from LOOK (floating cleat) and never had a problem. After about 4 months I developed knee pain on the inside of the knee. After much research, turns out that the float was causing my knee the problem. Turns out I'm not the only one this has happend to. Small platform (In my view if the platform is not in the pedal then it's small) caused hot spots on foot I never had before.

Botten line: Speedplays are NOT for everyone. great design, great pedal -- just not for everyone....Now the new Speedplay with adjustable float may be a different story....
